Birds Of Prey: Continuation Of Harley's Adventure, Not A Suicide Squad Sequel
Harley Quinn played by Margot Robbie in the 2016 released Suicide Squad, was adored everywhere around the globe. The movie was a box-office hit; however, it did receive mixed reviews from the critics and fans. Nevertheless, the fan beloved Harley Quinn is returning in what seems like a solo movie for her. The movie is named Birds of Prey (And The Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn). Christian Hodson who is the writer of the film recently confirmed that the movie is not a sequel to the Suicide Squad. The movie is said to be somewhat of a standalone film for Harley.
After Margot’s adaptation of Harley’s role was loved everywhere, Warner Bros. seized the opportunity to announce several movies with her involvement. Out of the lot, it is Birds of Prey which will see Harley in the main lead in the movie. Christina Hodson has written the film while Margot is producing it. The film will be an R-Rated gangster girls story where Harley will team up with other female DC characters like Huntress and Black Canary.
Mary Elizabeth will play Huntress, and Jurnee Smollett-Bell will be playing Black Canary. Cathy Yan will be directing the movie after she was hired the previous year for the project. Christina expressed her opinions on the movie in a recent interview. She described the film as a standalone story for Harley rather than being a sequel to Suicide Squad. She went on to explain how she wrote the movie alone for Quinn without having to rely on previous events.
She stated that even if the audience is already familiar with the character, it is still her own story and she approached it like that. Christina adored Harley’s character and subsequently other characters too, which were added in the film. So she created a story which would not have to rely on some other series or events to feel complete.
The approach of Christina will give the fans what they craved in the Suicide Squad film, more and more of Harley Quinn. The first looks for the movie showcase a Harley Quinn after the events of Suicide Squad. She seems to have crossed out the Joker tattoo indicating that she has moved on, which will provide her a fresh start in the movie.
Birds of Prey is not the solitary film from DC that will feature a standalone story. DC is set to release Wonder Woman 1984 too, which fits this description also. Wonder Woman 1984 is supposed to be a separate movie and not a sequel, along with being a standalone story too.
The idea for Birds of Prey (And The Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn) is a good attempt by DC and Warner Bros at providing what the audience wants. It would certainly be interesting to see what the movie has to offer.
