How to Stop Programs from Stealing Focus On Windows 10, 8, 7, Vista or XP

Have you ever been frustrated by an unexpected and unwanted popup on your Windows computer? If that’s the case, then we would like to tell you these popups are generated from specific third-party or preinstalled programs. This frustrating act is called stealing focus in technical terms. In most of the cases, it happens due to third-party software, which includes adware, or it can be a notification from system maintenance of your Windows 10.
How to Troubleshoot Stealing Focus on Windows 10
This issue is quite easy to solve and doesn’t require any technical background in order to fix. You can do it just by identifying the program, which is causing the popups to appear on your screen. In some cases, stealing focus can also happen due to a buggy OS or software. Sometimes viruses and malicious computer programs can also show you misleading and disappointing pop messages.
Here is what you need to do:
  1. Remove the Program or application showing up the display popup images and messages on the screen. This is the best way of getting rid of these annoying popups in Windows as it will remove the program itself, which is causing trouble.
    • There is plenty of ways to do this, such as by using the Control Panel and then going to the Program and Features option.
    • After that, you can click on the Uninstall a program option to delete any software.
    • On Windows 10, you can also use the Settings app to uninstall the programs as well.
  • Stopping the Background Processes: By stopping the processes of a specific program, you can get rid of popup it shows.
    • First of all, head to the Task Manager by right-clicking on the Taskbar and then choosing the Start Task Manager option.
    • Once the Task Manager opens, head to the Processes tab.
    • Look for the process which is displaying the popup and then right-click on it.
  • Choose the End Task option to end the process.
  • Reinstalling the Program: If a program is essential, but it is showing the Popup messages, then you can do one thing: Uninstall and Reinstall it from a more trusted source. Here’s what you need to do :
    • Head to the Start Menu by pressing the Windows logo key on your keyboard.
    • Go to the Control Panel by searching for it and then selecting from the results. If Windows 7 is currently your OS, then choose the Control Panel option directly.
    • Now head to the Program and Features option.
    • Press on the Uninstall a Program option.
    • Select the application which is causing unwanted popups messages.
    • Uninstall it and then reinstall it from the genuine or the official site.
Check the Program’s settings and see if they allow you to disable the notification and pop up messages. The program may feature a function that shows you alert for the latest offers and warnings related to the program. Make sure to turn off all features that display messages and notifications on screen.
